Premier Society of Neurosurgeons Neurologists and allied Neuroscientists
My Dear friends,
I welcome you all to our official website. It is an attempt to showcase the present and the past events related to the society and present a summary of forthcoming activities. The educational activities promoted by the society are highlighted.
Before you begin to navigate through the website, I present to you some of my reflections on this divine subject that we have chosen.
As neurosurgeons ours is the most challenging profession and task in the process of human healing. We deal with the brain – the centre of our thoughts and emotions, of our memories and actions, of our creativity and hopes, of language and dreams.
It is our mind, our being, our self, our soul. This is where all there is.
As neurosurgeons, we are called upon to repair it, heal it, make it whole, and to make sure it becomes, and continues to be, the great gift of nature – of God – to each one of us, in all its rich and varied fecundity.
A surgeon’s presiding deity is wound healing that pardons all the forays of surgical knife, to restore the animal body to as close to status-quo-anteas is divinely possible.
Neurosurgery is a profession, of course. But more than that, it is a calling. Because we are healers. We are not called to neurosurgery to make big money. Or to show off our surgical and technical skills. Or to become arrogant and pompous because we deal with life and death at every turn.
NO: we are healers, so that when we use our hands, we may feel the hand of God guiding us.
How to keep that noble commitment alive at all times is the great challenge for all of us.
While technology surges ahead, the philosophy of neurosurgery should not lag behind.
As President of our society, I encourage you all to think differently but at the same time philosophically, to innovate for the pleasure of originating, to show empathy towards the less fortunate and to enjoy this extraordinary position we hold conscientiously.
Three scores and eight years ago, four young men, Drs. Jacob Chandy, B.Ramamurthi, Baldev Singh & S.T.Narasimhan, met at the residence of Dr.Ramamurthi and founded this august body. From those humble beginnings with just four members, this organization has now grown into a vibrant society with a total membership of 3000 members. This was mainly due to the foresight and vision of the founding members and others who followed in their footsteps. Year-on-year, the membership accrual to our society has consistently increased which attests to the popularity of this society among the neuroscientists of this country.
Our society has introduced several new academic initiatives which include: periodic educational courses for residents, superspeciality CMEs for young neurosurgeons to promote subspecialisation among the younger generation, monthly webinars, online topic-based publication known as “ Current Practice in Neurosciences”, international travelling fellowships for young members and travelling fellowships within the country for residents. In addition, there are several awards for younger members during the annual conference for the best papers in different categories. The official journal of our society, Neurology India, has gained a high impact factor, the highest in the history of this journal.
In keeping with the changing times and rapidly evolving technology, we have made an effort to revamp our Society’s website to make it more informative, attractive and user friendly.
We hope you will appreciate the contents of this website. The contact details of the office bearers of our society are provided in this website. Please do not hesitate to contact our office bearers for clarifications, if any.

The Neurological Society of India is the apex body representing neuroscientists in India. Since its inception, the Society has been involved in organising seminars and conferences to initiate interaction between practicing neurologists and keeping the neuroscientist community up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. The Society also conducts a continuing medical education programme, the first of its kind to be introduced in India.
One fine body…
